Shyam Saran Negi - Independent India's first voter

Mr. Shyam Saran Negi, a school teacher from the remote town of Kalpa in Himachal Pradesh might appear to be just another person that you come across in your life but he has a special place in the history of independent India. He is independent India’s first voter and since 1951 he hasn’t missed even a single chance to vote. 97 years old Mr Negi is a true believer in the power of democracy and he has always made sure to cast his vote, no matter what the situation is.

Google has created this wonderful video to inspire people to vote in the upcoming elections. They have started the #PledgeToVote campaign to encourage more and more people to vote during the 2014 general elections in India. This is your chance to make a difference. Have you pledged to cast your vote?
